Don’t let people wander past your booth without stopping. Remember, the goal is to always have at least 2-3 visitors at your booth engaged with your knowledgeable and personable hosts. Attendees will subconsciously perceive that you have more value and prestige than the run of the mill exhibitor if several people are stopped at your booth.
How do you do this? A friendly face and cheerful greeting goes a long way toward drawing people in. Here’s some advice on trade show “giveaways.” Notice the items in your office desk drawer or on your desktop: mugs, USB drives, calculators, calendars, letter openers, paper cubes, pens, highlighters…these have a long shelf (desk) life. Consider keeping premium items (e.g., a leather portfolio or day planner) behind the counter to hand out to VIPs, preferred customers and strong prospects. Many attendees will be on the hook to bring home fun items for their children, so toys like model cars and miniature footballs are always a hit.
